Board of Studies

The Board of Studies is a statutory body and reports to the Academic Council through the Dean Concerned. Each Academic Department shall have a Board of Studies. All academic matters like the introduction of a new Academic Programme, revision of a programme/course, and review of academic rules shall be handled by the Board of Studies.

The Board of Studies shall function for a period of three years and shall continue to function until it is reconstituted.

The Vice-Chancellor shall be the competent authority to constitute/reconstitute the Board of Studies.

Board of Studies shall consist of the following members:

Dean of the School as Chairman.

All other faculty members of the discipline concerned subject to the condition that such number doesn’t exceed five. (If exceeds, five senior-most faculty members)

One senior faculty member to be co-opted by the BoS from another department nominated by the Vice-Chancellor in consultation with the Dean.

One subject expert (ACADEMIC) nominated by the Vice-Chancellor on the recommendation of the Dean/Head of the concerned Department.

One subject expert (INDUSTRY) nominated by the Vice-Chancellor on the recommendation of the Dean/Head of the concerned Department.

In addition to the above members, one additional member (ACADEMIC / R&D / INDUSTRY) may be co-opted by the BoS and nominated by the Vice-Chancellor in consultation with the Head of the Department (if necessary).

All the members of the above body other than ex-officio shall hold office for a term of three years and shall be eligible for reappointment.

Power & Functions of the Board of Studies Committee

To formulate and revise, as frequently as necessary, the syllabus of the subject.

To ensure that the curriculum reflects the state of the discipline at any moment and further that students receive a rigorous, up-to-date, and future-oriented education.

To recommend assessment schemes for the subject and program concerned.

To offer guidelines for research/capstone projects undertaken by students as part of their graduation requirements.

To prepare/revise panels of examiners for valuation/revaluation, practical and viva-voce, and panels of adjudicators for Thesis / Dissertation / Project Work of UG/PG courses and Ph.D.

To consider and offer an opinion on any matter referred to it by the Academic Council, Vice-Chancellor, or the Dean of the School concerned.

To frame the syllabi and model question papers for the entrance exams for admission into UG/PG Programmes of the University.

To recommend to the University the pass/class regulations for the course concerned.

To recommend to the University the qualifications required to teach a particular course/subject/paper.
