Medhavi Foundation is an education and skill development organisation established in 2012 and the sponsoring body of Medhavi Skills University, Sikkim. With a focus on advancing education, skills and livelihoods, the Foundation works to bridge gaps between industry requirements and workforce capabilities. Through initiatives in skill development, livelihood enhancement and women empowerment, it creates sustainable opportunities and promotes socio-economic inclusion.
Registered as a not-for-profit organisation under Section 25 of the Indian Companies Act, 1956, the Foundation has partnered with the National Skill Development Corporation, State Skill Missions and leading employers to strengthen industry-aligned skilling ecosystems. With a nationwide presence, it has positively impacted over 6,00,000 youth through skill training across diverse sectors, creating pathways to employment, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods.
Of India’s working-age population (15–59 years) has received formal vocational training.
Have undergone training outside formal systems, including 7.1% who are self-taught and 9.3% who acquired skills through on-the-job learning.
Have not received any form of vocational or technical training.
Of graduates, along with 36% of postgraduates are employed in roles below their level of qualification.
Through its engagement with MSDE and NSDC, Medhavi Foundation operates nine Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKKs) across India. These centres support Government of India skill development initiatives, including PMKVY and programmes implemented by five Central Ministries. They offer short-term training, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), reskilling and upskilling opportunities, with programmes designed around evolving industry needs and national skilling priorities.
With partnerships spanning 20+ state-led skilling missions across India, Medhavi Foundation delivers skill development initiatives tailored to regional needs. Its collaborations with State Skill Development Missions, including UPSDM, THLM, Samagra Shiksha, DAY-NULM, NIELIT, PBSSD and others, strengthen the link between learning and employment, equipping trainees with relevant skills for today’s industry.
Medhavi Foundation works with leading CSR partners, including Emami, Ambuja Neotia, Tata Steel, HDFC Parivartan and ECL, to expand access to inclusive skill development. These collaborations support underserved communities and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) by creating opportunities for education, employment and entrepreneurship, contributing to sustainable livelihoods across diverse regions.
Through its initiatives with Medhavi Skills University, Medhavi Foundation supports self-financed skill development programmes designed to address local employment needs. These include Electrical and Plumbing certification programmes at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre in Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, in collaboration with Helping Hands NGO, along with a Diploma in Hospitality and Hotel Operations offered at the Aizawl Centre.

Medhavi Foundation has established a wide-reaching skilling network across West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Sikkim, Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram with 400+ vocational centres and skill academies, including Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendras (PMKKs). Building on this nationwide ecosystem, MSU and its industry partners extend Work Integrated Skill-based Higher Education (WISE) programmes across India, connecting learners with education, skills and workplace opportunities.
