Oct 14, 2025

The Department of Optometry, School of Health Science and Technology, Medhavi Skills University (MSU), organized a series of community outreach programs aimed at promoting preventive eye health and vision care across Sikkim. As part of this initiative, Eye Screening Camps were held on 19th September 2025 at Sumbuk Senior Secondary School, South Sikkim, and on 25th September 2025 at Lower Syari Government Secondary School, Gangtok.

The camps focused on spreading awareness about eye health and providing basic eye care services to school students, teachers, and community members. A total of 123 individuals underwent screening for various eye conditions, including refractive errors, presbyopia, and eye trauma. The key activities comprised vision screening, refraction tests, detailed case history taking, and referral of complex cases such as exotropia for further specialized care.

In addition to the screenings, interactive awareness sessions were conducted to emphasize the importance of regular eye check-ups, preventive measures, and maintaining good eye hygiene.

The initiative saw the active participation of 5th-semester Optometry students, guided by Ms. Jyoshnika Huzuri, who gained valuable hands-on clinical experience while serving the community. The program exemplified MSU’s commitment to experiential learning and community health development, reinforcing its vision of integrating skill-based education with social impact.
