It is often claimed that genuine learning begins where theory ends and experience begins, which is particularly true in the field of hospitality management and the hotel management industry, where success is determined not by knowledge but by real skills, skills that can only be experience-based. It is this precept that frames the underpinning rationale of Medhavi Skills University (MSU), a university predicated on the premise that learning must be practical, purposeful and linked to industry.
MSU employs a new model of education which includes On-Job Training (OJT) as a necessary component of every degree, but especially for degrees like the B.Sc in Hospitality & Hotel Management. In simple terms, OJT training means students will gain industry experience whilst they study. Students will step away from the classroom and into industry, learning through application and clarity in their career direction.
What Is Different About OJT at MSU?
At many other universities, students typically complete their degree and then are tasked to find practical training experiences. At MSU that model is inverted, as students are prepared on the job as part of their degree. The MSU OJT model will assure all students:
Students enrolled in the hotel management course have an opportunity to complete OJT (On the Job Training) of up to 12-month paid experience in star hotels and leading hospitality chains. The exposure not only develops professional skills but also gives students confidence and further shapes their direction.

Reena's Journey: From Classroom Education to the Experience of Staying in a 5-Star Hotel
True learning is exemplified by true experiences, and the journey of Reena Kurung, a B.Sc in Hotel Management student from MSU, exemplifies the true power of OJT.
“In third semester, I seized an opportunity to undergo training at Hyatt Regency Kolkata, a five-star property. The university provides us hands-on practical classes and curriculum before entering job learning. I was in bakery lobby cafe under F&B service. On my first day, I faced a lot of challenges, but I never thought of giving up. It was totally different from what I had really imagined, but gradually I learned and I did it. Working in a five-star property was like a daydream for me. During my journey, I faced long shift hours, no weekends off. But no matter what, I persevered and I learned valuable skills like time management, teamwork and guest handling. Lastly, I would like to thank Medhavi Skills University for the golden opportunities and the faculties who always support us like the golden tears.”
Reena's experience exemplifies the impact that OJT provides to students. Reena did not just gain technical knowledge or experience in the hospitality management field, she learned how to address challenges, adapt to high-pressure contexts, communicate professionally, and develop as a hotel professional. This embodies change, learning and growth that employers consider to be valuable.

OJT Develops Real-World Confidence and Skills
The hospitality industry ultimately values efficiency, personality, and presence of mind, which can only be developed by experience and are not taught as a writing position in a textbook. The OJT framework of MSU develops the skillset students need to assimilate into the industry through:
Hands-on Learning
Students are thoroughly trained in culinary practice, front office, housekeeping, bakery, and F&B service before they step into OJT in training labs at the campus.
Earn While Learn Model
Students receive stipends during OJT and have the opportunity for financial independence and professional responsibilities at a young age.
Industry Experience
Students work at hotels like Hyatt, ITC, Sterling, and other industry brands to provide them with expectations and benchmarked standards in the hospitality sector.
Guidance from Industry Professionals
Students will have the opportunity to learn first-hand from industry professionals working in genuine hotel environments.
What does OJT Training mean at MSU?
At MSU we define OJT not simply as experience of working in an internship. We define training as:
Graduates will leave not just with a degree in hand, but that they will have work experience that makes them workforce-ready on the first day of work.
What Skills Will Students Learn After Completing a B.Sc in Hospitality & Hotel Management at MSU
There are skills associated with MSU’s practical model that students will have developed through the experience. Here are ten of them:
MSU knows that today's youth require more than a degree, they need employability. MSU engages the student experience through skill-based education, complementary hands-on learning, and an emphasis on OJT, while the student builds clarity about their future career. Rather than leaving MSU confused about their future, students grow with valuable industry experience as well as a growing confidence, all within the first few semesters of their degree.
This model ultimately breaks the bridge from student to successful academic learner into industry professional, especially in skill-driven industries, such as hospitality management. Many job seekers entering the job market simply do not have relevant experience, but MSU graduates enter the job market, not just with a degree but with a CV that already lists experiences and achievements originating from the university.
Learning by doing is the true foundation of success in the hospitality industry. OJT provides students with competence as they operate with professionals in the field, confidence as they solve real world problems, and clarity about their future career in hospitality. MSU is empowering students not only to just study hospitality, but to live it, experience it, and build their future in it.
